Greg Dickerson, Untitled

The picture I have taken does not do this piece of art justice. The colors have muted and you can't feel the texture with just a two dimesional image.
I chose this piece because I love art that means something different to every person.  This art speaks to me because of the different textures and bright colors.  Greg Dickerson taught my Drawing I class on Saturdays Spring semester of 2010.  I have seen his other works of art and they are just as childlike and fun.
If I were to be promoting this work of art, I would show a detailed picture of the work because this piece of artwork has no title.  Even if the artwork did have a title it would not do this piece of artwork justice because there is so much going on and a few words could not capture the essence of this piece.
This artwork is significant because of its color scheme and the use of fabrics. You may think that any person could create a piece of art that looks like this, but it is much harder than you'd think; I know because I have tried.

Metaphors We Live By Ch 1 & 2

This reading was very informational and very eye opening.  I have never thought of metaphors as a concept, rather I think of them as relating words to one another.  I quite enjoyed the reading, and I am not a reader.  It was enjoyable to me because it had so much interesting information and gave great examples at to what the author was talking about.  I will now look at metaphors in a different light and try to find metaphors in my life.

Here is a good website for metaphors:

This is a good artist statement because it tells us about her thoughts on the project and what she is exploring.  It also gives her process of carrying out this project and a little background as to why she decided to do this project.

My Movie Poster

I was inspired by a 300 poster to make layers as I did.  The top image is of my friend, Jimmy, doing a back flip. I combined several images into one and then changed the color levels of the image.  The middle image is of the backside of a house in Tucson, Arizona with mountains in the background.  I used the lasso tool to select this section from the image and changed the color levels of the selection.  on the bottom right and left are cacti.  They are the same image, just flipped horizontally.  I used the lasso tool to select them from their original image and changed the color levels of my selection.  The font I used for the movie title is called Orator Std.  I chose this font because I wanted to keep it simple and edgy as to not take away too much attention from the rest of the poster and this font seemed like my best choice. The font I chose for the actor's names is called Letter Gothic Std.  I chose this font because I wanted it to be simple and not take away from the interest in the movie title and the rest of the poster.
Redone:  I took out one of the Jimmy's and spaced them farther apart so they don't overlap and I centered the title.

Quote

I chose this quote because it is very important to the way I live life.  To me it means to live life how you want to live it and to be who you want to be and those who doesn't accept you for who you are don't matter.  The font is elegant and smooth as are the words of the quote.

Posters

This poster was appealing to me because of the following:  The main act, Dan Deacon, is in the largest font and the font is easy to read.  The bands who are playing as well, but aren't as well known, are in smaller print.  The location, date and time are important information and, even though they are small, their font is easily read.  The way the font curves with the image draws your eye, so the font isn't lost in the poster.  The bright colors and large image are very appealing to the eye.

I dislike this poster because the most important title, "The Saddest Music in the World," is so hard to read.  There are bright colors, but the image is unappealing and difficult to understand.  There is just no scheme to this poster.

This Is Me

I chose this picture to represent myself because it is of a large city and someday I want to live in a large city.  I want to live in a large city because there is lots of fashion and art and lots of things to do.  Being bored is my least favorite thing in the world.  In a large city I will have things to occupy myself with.
Art is a passion of mine.  I love painting, drawing, photography and ceramics.  Making art and seeing the final product is a great reward to me.  Another form of art, fashion, is another passion of mine.  I am a shopaholic;  I love to shop for clothes, shoes, jewelry and make up.  Being fashionable is a main priority in my life.
I also chose this picture because it is a very beautiful picture.  I love pictures of sunsets and night photography.  Photography is my main passion.  I own a Nikon D5000 and a Canon Rebel G; I take pictures wherever I go.   I plan to major in photography at the University of Illinois- Chicago.  I someday want to work for National Geographic and travel all around the world taking pictures.  But if I can’t get that job I want to have my own portrait studio.
